Countdown to departure. An introduction to the challenge.

Hello dear reader(s) and welcome to the Team Welsh Ride the Alps Challenge.

Your blogger is yours truly (more of me later), but firstly let me explain what this blog is and the challenge we about to undertake.

Friday 22nd September will see our merry Band of Brothers fly out to Nimes to begin a seven day trip that should hopefully raise significant and valuable funds for Rosemere Cancer Foundation and Blackburn Youth Zone. The ride is expected to fall very slightly shy of 600 miles and with approximately 60,000ft of climbing it will present a very tough test for the challenge riders.

The organisation of the ride comes courtesy of Ste Pritchard of Matrix 24 7 and Team Chronomaster and represents the third challenge ride they have organised this year. Already behind them are a trip to the Italian Dolomites with the charity of choice being Bolton Lads and Girls Club, as well as the reverse of our trip earlier this month - this makes our ride Alps2.

Over a year on the making the countdown to departure has been a long one and the challengers have been  preparing as best they can with invariably busy lives and family/work commitments. For every five or so challengers a mentor was allocated to help with preparation, training and advice and I have the pleasure of being mentor to my six mentees - together we are Team Welsh.
